Dear TOBI,

In recognition of the Texas Oilman's Bass Invitational's continued support of the Texas Children's

Hospital Renal Program, we are pleased to announce that in the winter of 2005 a patient exam room in the

Renal Dialysis Unit will be named in honor of Texas Oilman's Bass Invitational (TOBI). The Unit is located

on the 8th floor of Texas Children's West Tower.

The Renal Dialysis Unit is the center for both outpatient and inpatient dialysis and pheresis treatments

for a large group of infants, children and teenagers with acute and chronic diseases treated at Texas Children's Hospital. The dialysis treatments help promote health and are life-sustaining for children with complete kidney failure. In the last year, over 3000 chronic hemodialysis treatments and 10,000 home peritoneal dialysis treatments were performed for more than 60 patients with end stage renal disease treated by our Unit.

Another 1800 acute dialysis treatments were done for hospitalized patients with kidney failure. In addition

300 pheresis treatments were performed for patients with many types of diseases. A new home hemodialysis program for selected patients, using technology not available before in Texas, was instituted this summer with great success.

To advance our knowledge about dialysis and kidney failure in children, the Pediatric Renal Team of

doctors, nurses, dietitians, social workers, physical therapists and Child Life Specialists are actively engaged in ongoing research about dialysis and kidney failure in children. The Team is currently recognized nationally for their innovative and cutting edge contributions to this area.

TOBI has been a good friend and supporter of the children with renal disease at Texas Children's

Hospital for many years. TOBI funds have helped send our children to dialysis and transplant camp, provide computers for activities and learning when patients are in the Dialysis Unit, enrich the healing environment with child-friendly furniture and an indoor garden, provide help for indigent families, buy equipment to start up innovative new treatment programs and assist with ancillary funding of patient-related research activities. It is particularly fitting that a patient exam room where the children and families come together with the Pediatric Renal Team for regular monthly dialysis visits be dedicated in your honor.

We appreciate the continued support and commitment of TOBI to Texas Children's Hospital and the

"Kidney Kids." You help our kids get better, our families feel less of the burden of their medical problems, and our Pediatric Renal Team make research advances to improve the care we give to the kids. Thank you for everything and especially your presence in the lives of the Kidney Kids.
